Appasaheb Kandagal brings more than two decades of experience in the global pharmaceutical industry, with expertise spanning Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) business, alliance management, portfolio strategy, supply chain, sourcing, and process engineering. His distinguished career reflects a unique blend of commercial acumen, strategic leadership, and technical expertise. Recognized for his analytical mindset, structured problem-solving approach, and collaborative leadership style, he has consistently driven business transformation and built high-performing organizations across the global API industry.
Prior to joining Smilax Laboratories, Appasaheb served as Head – Alliance & CDMO Business at Matrix Pharmacorp Pvt. Ltd., where he led the company’s strategic alliance with Viatris while driving the growth of its CDMO business. Before Matrix, he held several senior leadership positions at Mylan Laboratories (now Viatris), leading the European API business, shaping API portfolio strategy, and establishing the company’s Marketing Services function. He also served as Senior Vice President – Strategy at Glenmark Life Sciences (now Alivus Life Sciences). Earlier in his career, he held key positions at Ranbaxy Laboratories, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and Gharda Chemicals, gaining extensive expertise in global sourcing, operational excellence, and process engineering.
As Chief Executive Officer, Appasaheb will lead Smilax Laboratories into its next phase of growth, with a strategic focus on expanding the company’s global footprint, strengthening customer and partner relationships, accelerating innovation, enhancing operational excellence, and creating sustainable long-term value for customers, employees, and stakeholders.
